Unlocking the potential of bacteria: Nature’s greatest innovators
Our Story
ErebaGen is a engineering biology company unlocking the full potential of specialised microbial metabolism. Built on decades of academic research, from the group of Prof Greg Challis, our platform is uniquely capable of activating silent biosynthetic pathways revealing enzymes and small molecules that remain invisible to traditional discovery methods.
We believe the future of chemical manufacturing will be biological, sustainable, and driven by data. Our mission is to make nature’s chemistry accessible for industrial use
We go beyond primary metabolism
Most biotech companies work with enzymes central to life — a narrow, highly conserved slice of biology. We work with the vast, diverse, and underexplored world of specialised metabolism.
We access chemistry others cannot
Silent pathways encode complex, multifunctional enzymes evolved over millions of years. Activating them unlocks entirely new chemical capabilities.
We generate proprietary, AI-ready datasets
Every pathway we activate and every enzyme we characterise expands a unique dataset linking:
-
sequence
-
structure
-
function
-
substrate scope
-
genomic context of a pathway
We deliver scalable industrial impact
Our engineering and bioprocess development capabilities allow us to convert discovery into manufacturable solutions — making previously inaccessible chemistry cost-competitive and sustainable.
Our platform is made up of three components
A word from our CSO
Microbial chemistry is amazing. Through 25 years of research into microbial specialised metabolism, we have seen how Nature has evolved to solve its own chemical challenges, and how these solutions can translate into industrial applications. We can utilise the bacteria, biocatalysts and small molecules that have evolved over millions of years to transform industrial processes and improve lives. It is fascinating to see the incredible machinery microbes have developed to build complex molecules beyond the reach of current synthetic methods.
Our mission is to harness the largely untapped potential of microbes to create solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges. At ErebaGen, innovation is at the heart of what we do and I am excited for us to continue to apply Nature’s toolkit to solve real world problems.
